The little rescue with a big heart

Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs, specifically dogs in shelters at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when the dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

As families face crisis and uncertainty because a loved one has been suddenly detained, many with beloved pets waiting for them to return home, we are reminded of just how deeply connected we all are. When one of us suffers, we all do.

For us, rescue has always been about more than saving dogs. It is about showing up for our community. It is about offering support, empathy, and resources. It is about our commitment to foster hope and a sense of security—not just for the animals we serve, but for the people who love them.

The recent activity in our cities has shattered families and left pets without the people they depend on. With shelters and rescues already stretched thin, resources are more limited than ever.

We encourage you to help in any way you can, but if you’re not sure where to begin, here are some avenues:

▪️Check in on your neighbors. Help them create an emergency plan for their pets. Offer to be their lifeline if they need one.

▪️Connect with your local shelter or rescue to volunteer, donate, foster, or adopt. Every action helps care for animals already in the system and creates space for others in need of refuge.

▪️If you are in Long Beach, California or the surrounding area, join the K9 Kismet team by opening your home to a dog in need. To learn more about our foster program and apply, visit www.k9kismet.org/foster.

We are a small rescue with limited resources, but we are committed to doing what we can to help. We hope you will stand with us.

Please join us in welcoming our newest pack member, Cocobean. 😍

Cocobean #A740118 was found as a stray on May 17, 2025, when she walked up to a family attending a gathering near Recreation Park in Long Beach, CA. This sweet pocket pittie arrived at @lbanimalcare emaciated and dehydrated, with several mammary masses, traces of blood in her urine, skin and ear infections, and worn-down teeth. By the looks of her, this momma has likely known little more than overbreeding and neglect. And still, her tail wags when anyone shows her kindness.

With so many medical needs, Cocobean needed a rescue to step in, and she needed one fast. We put out an urgent plea for help.

Like every rescue story we’re privileged to tell, Cocobean’s save was a team effort. A compassionate staff member at @lbanimalcare offered to foster her temporarily, giving us time to find the right long-term placement. We found the perfect person, but she isn’t available until June 13. So we turned to our network of temp fosters to help bridge the gap, and they answered the call. 🫶🏼

Because rescue is never just one person or one moment. It is always a community coming together with a shared promise to change a life.

Cocobean is heading to the vet today, and we know this is just the beginning of her medical journey. She is pure sweetness, and she deserves the very best care. Please stand with us to make sure she gets it.

Foster

As a foster-based rescue, our primary need is short and long-term fosters. Fostering costs you nothing; we cover all expenses. Whether you’re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you.

Adopt

By providing a forever home for a dog in rescue, you're helping to free up a foster home, which allows us to help another dog in need. The dogs in our care are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered (unless medically waived), microchipped, and receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, specialty care as needed. If you’re interested in meeting a K9 Kismet pack member, please fill out the adoption application to begin the process.
